Primary Care Physician (Scottsburg CBOC)

The Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky is seeking A physicians for full-time position in our Primary Care program. If selected, applicants will provide outpatient primary care services to a diverse Veteran population at our Scottsburg, Indiana Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). Applicants must be board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Practice. Recent, successful experience in primary care is preferred. The Louisville VAMC has an academic affiliation with the University of Louisville. The VA offers an attractive salary and excellent benefits. The salary range for full time primary care physicians is currently $176,967- $225,000. Training, board certification and prior experience are considered in salary determination decisions. The VA and assumes liability for tort claims associated with care provided in the course of official VA duties, and VA physicians are not required to carry individual malpractice insurance for care provided in VA practice.
The employee shall provide services which include, but are not limited to, diagnosing, treating and managing patients with typical primary care (including the routine care of women patients)conditions according to usual and acceptable or customary standards of medical practice. The provider will follow VA established clinical and preventative guidelines and document accordingly. The physician will report to the ACOS of Ambulatory Care. The physician will work independently, caring for outpatients in an established clinic. Specialists and other primary care providers are available for consultation. The physician will be expected to cooperate and collaborate fully with other staff members in meeting the medical care needs of VAMC patients. The physician will participate in medical duties and functions related to quality of care review and process improvement. The physician may be asked to participate on various committees and task forces as assigned and attend required meetings. The Physician will serve as a resource for Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants who are also delivering primary care and responds to all staff in the primary care teams in regards to patient concerns.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm; schedule may include occasional Saturday or extended hours clinics in adjusted work schedules.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Primary Care Physician.
Physical Requirements: In accordance with 29 Code of Federal Regulations 1614. 203, the individual selected must be physically and mentally able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform the essential functions of this position without endangering the health and safety of self and others. The physical requirements of this position may include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, reaching (overhead), repetitive motion and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials.
Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a condition of employment and a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations where patients receive care or who come into contact with VA patients as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased facilities. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, paid and unpaid, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, students, researchers, volunteers, and trainees who work at these facilities.
Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboard process.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
